‘Old South’ fraternity again facing complaints over Confederate flags, uniforms on campus – Los Angeles Times

I am really tired of seeing the Kappa Alpha Order (KA) do the dying-cockroach backcrawl every time some professionally offended type starts bellyaching. Does anyone really care about how scandalized these perpetually PO’ed people are? Does anyone really believe they are not just showboating?  Is it really so remarkable that a fraternity started by Southerners on the campus of Washington and Lee College the same year the War ended is out and about doing something Confederate and celebrating their Southern heritage?

The news story reports:  “University of Alabama alumnae [of the Black Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority also know as AKA] are upset after Kappa Alpha Order members wearing Confederate uniforms and carrying battle flags paraded past a historically black sorority as the women celebrated the group’s 35th anniversary.”

Yes, they were doing what they do every year, driving past the same sorority row houses they have driven past year after year. They were going to pick up their dates for the Old South Ball as they have done every year. If these AKA’s have been around 35 years, I would think that they might be used to seeing these Southern Belles going by on the back of the KA’s trucks like some kind of parade float. It happens every year.

Were these hoop-skirted alumna somehow more frightening this time! More alarming! Less sensitive? Girls dressed in hoop-skirts riding on the back of flat bed trucks could not easily be mistaken for a night-riding lynch mob. I mean wake up! Grow up. Get real. The AKA’s admitted that there was no confrontation, no taunting. Traveling past a Black sorority house on the way to pick up one’s date is not generally construed to be a death threat.

I smell opportunism. This is not about White intimidation. This is about Black Power. This is about a Black sorority seizing an opportunity to make Whitey dance the Juba. This is pure “Mau Mauing the flack-catchers”. The KA’s made a polite apology. The AKA’s admitted that they did not believe that the KA’s were being racist. That should be the end of it, but Nooooooooooooo! Not when you can do a little Mau Mauing and laugh up your sleeve at the antics of the silly Honkeys puleing and whining as they wallow in all that White guilt. You don’t let a sucker like that off the until you’ve extracted some money or concessions or something.

The pity of it all (besides the cringing reaction of the KA’s) is that this is yet another example of Institutionalised Liberal Bigotry. Liberal Bigots who demand that the KA’s toady up to these malcontents and give them everything they want are enabling this bad behavior. These girls want the KA’s traditions decapitated. They will probably get their way. This is made possible because the Liberal Bigots don’t believe in treating  Black sorority sisters the same as White sorority sisters.

Imagine if a White sorority full of brittle feminists had shrieked out their objection to the KA’s and their dates based on how hoop-skirts stirred up feelings of angst and oppression over the treatment of women in the past. I think sane people might have been able to muster some feelings of benign bemusment but nothing approaching sympathy. Yet, let the aggrieved party be Black and the bar of acceptable responses to trivial concerns is lowered to the ground. Why don’t Liberal Bigots think that Blacks can be held to the same standard as others? Why do they set such low expectations for Black people and tolerate pathological behaviors as if they were normal for Blacks and to be expected?

This is not the first time that KA’s have turned the color of moonlight and magnolias when confronted by a protected diversity-person. Most disgracefully, they act the craven while they plume themselves on their admiration for Gen. Robert E. Lee and the fact that the Kappa Alpha Order was founded at Washington and Lee College. These jackdaws, dressed in the borrowed plumage of Robert E. Lee, disgrace his memory each time they take the PC path of least resistance. General Lee would never countenace such effeminate behavior. If they are not going to defend their heritage and traditions, they ought to just furl their flags and go join the GAR or the Northland Garden Club.

I am suprised that some pro-Confederates are satisfied with this “apology”.  I don’t know about the rest of you but if any of my children had misbehaved this badly such an apology would just not do.

Imagine the result if Dowdell had kicked over Jewish headstones because he or one of his racial constituents was “offended” by the Star of David! Even if he were a Moslem or a Palestinian, would an apology have been satisfaction? This apology? Any apology? Guess again.

If simple memorials like flag decorations are in peril of destruction how much longer before the headstones themselves are pulled up?  Y’all, we need to let people know that we are not going to accept this kind of mischief. We need to demand that the city buy the Confederate flags for the next ten years and declare a city-wide recognition of Confederate memorial day along with an SCV approved curriculum for the schools for an April Confederate history month and that they sponsor public service announcements to raise public awareness of the Cause for which our ancestors fought. This would help blunt the bigotry and intolerance of ignorant apparatchicks like Dowdell and his ilk.  Of course, this won’t come forth from the goodness of the city council’s heart. They must be made to see that we who honor our ancestors are a force to be reckoned. Sentiments are not enough. If they were staring down the barrel of a lawsuit, we might get their attention. That’s a good reason to support the SLRC.

I appreciate the mayor and city council denouncing this act but I am afraid that it does not go nearly far enough to assure me that this grave-robber will cease and desist. He will be back. In a new guise with a new tactic but with the same intent, viz. to defile and desecrate.
